As you’re exploring in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, you’ll discover new locations as you expand your territory. Before long, you’ll likely come across a place you’d like to live in, but how do you move your settlement? The game doesn’t come right out and say it, but there is a process on moving your home in Ancestors, and we’ll detail it below.
How to move your settlement and make a new home in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
When you first start exploring your surroundings in Ancestors, you’ll see diamonds with question marks in them signifying scenic locations. These points of interest can be used as landmarks to help you navigate, as there’s no mini-map in the game. These discoveries can also become new homes for your tribe if you so desire, but to claim them as a new settlement, you’ll need to be ready for quite the undertaking.
When you focus on the diamonds with a question mark in them that denote undiscovered landmarks, they’ll turn into downward-pointing triangles which will remain visible outside of intelligence mode. You can then more easily navigate to them. Once you’re close, you can switch to intelligence mode and focus on them to discover a new landmark.
Before long, you’ll notice something about landmarks: they contain all the resources your tribe needs to survive. Food, water, and crafting supplies are usually in abundance in these areas, which makes them perfect if you want to move your settlement.
To move to a new settlement in Ancestors, you’ll need to build a bed near a landmark. Once you’ve done this, you’ll notice a prompt when you highlight the best that gives you an option to make the area your new home. All you have to do is hold X/Square, and you’re done.
There’s a catch though. Your tribe won’t automatically migrate to your new settlement. This means that if you advance a generation or evolve in your new home without returning to gather your clan members, then the game will count them as dying.
Do not settle a new home without either bringing your tribe with you or acknowledging that you’ll have to go back for them before you can advance a generation or evolve. If you fail to secure your tribe within the boundaries of your new home and advance time at all you can end up with only one member left in your clan (or up to three if you had children riding piggyback).
If you fail to prepare appropriately before advancing time and your tribe dies, the game isn’t over, but it will be a lot harder. It’s possible to recover from this by seeking out hominids in the world and solving their problems so you can return them to your home and make them tribe members.
