Ancestors Heal Broken Bones

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Heal Broken Bones | How to fix and prevent fractured legs

Broken bones in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey can slow you down and make you easy prey. Mending a broken leg can mean the difference between becoming food for a tiger and living to see your tribe grow strong. Below, we’ll show you how to prevent broken bones and how to mend them.

How do you heal broken bones in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey?

Chances are your first broken leg in Ancestors will come as a big scare. You’ll plummet from a tall tree and hear that nasty crunch. Fortunately, hearing a broken bone can be relieving. If you fall from a high enough location you’ll instantly die, so a fractured leg at least means your tribe member will live to fight another day.

When you break a leg in Ancestors, your avatar will be affected in a few different ways. The most apparent effect is that they’ll be considerably slower. Both level movement and climbing will be sluggish, but you’ll still be able to get around. Your vitality will also be reduced, and you’ll find your stamina will drain quicker.

Fortunately, there are a few different ways to cure a broken bone:

  • Wait it out.
  • Eat a bunch of Horsetails.
  • Eat Khat Leaves or Ground Khat Leaves.

Wait it out

Time heals all wounds (except for bleeding) in Ancestors, and you can just wait for your bone to mend. Fortunately, the tribe members in this game don’t have to deal with the horrors of an untreated fracture. If you wait out the broken bone gauge, your hominid will be right as rain, though their vitality gauge will have a lower maximum for quite some time.

Eat Horsetail

Ancestors Heal Bones Horsetails

Horsetail is a leafy green plant that you’ll find growing near most watering holes. Not only does it give your tribe nourishment, but it also has the effect of speeding up the healing of a broken bone. Each Horsetail only lowers the broken bone meter a bit, so prepare to eat 5-6 Horsetails to heal from a fresh fracture completely.

Eat Khat Leaves or Ground Khat Leaves

Khat Leaves are bright red and can be found growing in small trees throughout the world of Ancestors. They’re a bit rarer than Horsetail, but they are more powerful. Khat Leaves not only heal broken bones, but they also give you a buff against cold weather.

To increase their potency, Khat Leaves can be ground with a Granite Grinder into Ground Khat. This magnifies the substance’s effect tremendously, and Ground Khat will heal broken bones in a single dose. Making a granite grinder is easy, so you should always grind Khat Leaves whenever possible.

There are ways in Ancestors to buff your tribe against broken bones. When this buff is active, then you don’t have to worry about breaking your legs when you fall from a great height, though you can still instantly die if you fall from too far up.

Horsetail, Khat Leaves, and Ground Khat all bestow a buff that prevents broken bones for a short time if you eat them when you’re not currently suffering a fracture. Again, Ground Khat will provide you with a full buff meter instantly, while you’ll have to eat multiple helpings of Horsetail and Khat Leaves to get the same effect.

Having the buff against broken bones is especially valuable when you’re exploring in Ancestors. Climbing and swinging from tree to tree is the fastest way to get around, and it’s all too easy to make a mistake and fall from high up when you’re trying to cover ground quickly. By buffing yourself, you give yourself the best chance at surviving.
