Ancestors The Humankind Odyssey Sprinting

How to sprint and run in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey

Sprinting in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey isn’t handled like it is in most games. As a hominid trying to make its way up the evolutionary ladder and become a human, you’re not entirely as coordinated as homo sapiens. Fortunately, your capacity to sprint up trees in Ancestors is considerably better than that of the average modern man.

With the ability to sprint being so limited in Ancestors, you’ll want to know how to do it and what the limitations are. We’ll give you the scoop on how to run below.

How to sprint in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey

Whether it’s meant to simulate the lack of dexterity of early hominids or it’s just bad game design, the way you sprint in Ancestors is a bit unwieldy. Sprint and jump share the same button. On a controller, if you hold down A/X, then your character will move faster. Release the button, and your character will jump.

This method of control can be pretty frustrating. For one, your hominid doesn’t go that fast while on the ground, even when you acquire the ability to walk upright. Secondly, jumping can be a real detriment in some situations. When you’re trying to ascend a tree quickly, it’s often easy to accidentally jump and find yourself on the ground with a broken leg.

Can you run in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey?

It would make sense to include a full run function when your tribe becomes fully bipedal, and you rely less on tree-climbing to make your way around. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. As far as I can tell, your running ability may marginally improve through evolution and leveling up neuronals, but the mechanic itself stays much the same throughout Ancestors.

Unfortunately, no matter how evolved your tribe becomes, they’ll always have a predilection for jumping at inappropriate times when you just want them to move faster.
