Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy does not share the same universe as Avengers

With the announcement of the new game from the same studio as Marvel’s Avengers, fans are wondering if there will be a Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers crossover of some kind. Is the Guardians of the Galaxy game an Avengers sequel or spin-off in the same universe, or is there no story connection between the games? The GOTG game’s official Twitter has revealed the answer, and fans may be disappointed.

There is no Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers crossover planned

Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game is similar to Marvel’s Avengers in a lot of ways — they are both published by Square Enix, developed by Eidos Montreal, third-person action-brawlers with a team focus, Marvel-set but not the movie universe, and they use a lot of the same technology. However, the official Twitter account was directly asked if the two games were in the same universe, and they confirmed that the two were completely separate.

Consequently, this means that any potential story crossovers between the two games are highly unlikely. Unlike the movies, where the MCU is trying to fold all Marvel properties into the same universe, the games all seem to be separate. Despite the Avengers Spider-Man DLC being a PS4/PS5 exclusive (when it happens), it will not be the same Spider-Man that features in the Sony-exclusive games. The most fans can hope for is the ability to wear outfits based on the MCU in all games, which are already in Avengers and Insomniac’s Spider-Man game, and will be available for free with Guardians of the Galaxy when it releases.

Square Enix has revealed plenty of details about Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy already. It’s based on one of the most popular comic runs and many of the songs or performers on the soundtrack have been announced, but unfortunately, Star-Lord is the only playable character in the game — which is a shame, as the rumor is that Drax is an even bigger bad-ass than the MCU version.
