Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed VR games are reportedly coming exclusively to Oculus

Fans of the beloved stealth game series, Splinter Cell, have been clamoring for a new entry since Blacklist released back in 2013. Every year, someone predicts Sam Fisher’s return only to be disappointed. However, there may still be hope. Reportedly, Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed VR games are heading to the Oculus headset exclusively.

As reported by The Information, Facebook is scouring for game studios to sign exclusive deals to strengthen the Oculus’ library with virtual reality versions of popular games. This is also an effort to bring more people to Oculus VR with more familiar franchises, sell more headsets, and increase the time spent on Facebook’s platform. Despite it being absent for six years now, Splinter Cell is one of Ubisoft’s most recognizable series, fitting nicely into this supposed mold of Facebook’s new initiative. Assassin’s Creed, on the other hand, speaks for itself.

As this is coming from just one source, it’s hard to place whether this report is genuine. If this gaming initiative from Facebook is recent, we probably won’t see or hear about these games for a while. Ubisoft has not confirmed or tweeted about the report.

Just like any piece of gaming hardware, exclusive games are major selling points. This includes the world of virtual reality. The Oculus Rift has its own set of exclusive games, some of which are developed by Marvel’s Spider-Man studio, Insomniac Games. PlayStation VR also has its own set of exclusive titles like Astro Bot Rescue MissionTetris Effect, and Blood and Truth, just to name a few.

While the mainline Splinter Cell series has been dormant for some time, that doesn’t mean its protagonist hasn’t been busy recently. Last year, Sam Fisher made his way to Ghost Recon Wildlands through an update. He will also be featured in Ubisoft’s upcoming mobile game, Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad. While there was no big Assassin’s Creed game this year besides the remaster of Assassin’s Creed 3, Ubisoft will allegedly be releasing a Vikings-based entry next year.
