After the September 2022 Ubisoft Forward event revealed five new Assassin’s Creed games, players were left wondering about the future of the franchise’s VR version seeing as the game never even got a look-in at the show. Despite there being no news in two years and rumors of its demise, it seems Assassin’s Creed VR is not canceled and is even entering playtesting this week.
Where is Assassin’s Creed VR?
Assassin’s Creed VR was announced alongside Splinter Cell VR back in September 2020 as coming exclusively to Oculus VR (now Meta VR). Developed by Ubisoft Red Storm Entertainment, little else was revealed except the game would “take full advantage of Oculus’s technology to deliver immersive, visceral experiences that players won’t be able to find anywhere else.” Nothing more has been said about the game since its announcement.
Rumors have claimed the game is called Assassin’s Creed Nexus and will have multiple playable characters such as Ezio, Kassandra, Connor, and Haytham. The game will reportedly have 16 main linear assassination missions that will include familiar gameplay features like pickpocketing, climbing, timing-based combat, and the motion sickness-inducing leap of faith.
Insider Gaming recently implied that the game was nearer completion than any of the five games announced at Ubisoft Forward and its absence could indicate the game had been canceled back in July, a fate suffered by its aforementioned Splinter Cell VR counterpart. In a new Tweet by author Tom Henderson, though, it seems like the game is still in active development and will be entering playtesting this week. With Meta Connect 2022 due to be held on October 11, many are hoping to hear an update on the game then.
In other news, the Xbox Mineral Camo wireless controller has leaked ahead of its official announcement tomorrow. Elsewhere, HBO has revealed a teaser trailer for the upcoming The Last of Us TV series.
