The People Speak: The Current State of Half-Life 3

This week we reviewed Batman: The Enemy Within, were on-site at the $24 million prize pool Dota 2 International, talked about the current state of Half-Life 3, and broke the news that Final Fantasy XIV has surpassed 10 million players.

We’re just now getting started on our review of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Agents of Mayhem, and StarCraft: Remastered, so look out for coverage of those games. Also, next Friday we’ll be at an Ubisoft event to play all its upcoming games, including Far Cry 5 and Assassin’s Creed Origins.

As a quick note, I moved my main office this week. It was only a few miles, and we’ll be back into the swing of things next week.

Below were 10 of the most popular community posts for this week on GameRevolution.

Article: Community Wednesdays: Do You Think Half-Life 3 Will Ever Be Announced?

Comment: I played Half Life 2 long enough after it came out that most of it’s better bits had been “borrowed” and implemented in other games. Basically, by the time I got to it, it was been there, done that, have the the t-shirt. I never particularly cared to see the third entry, I don’t really care to see what they come up with to tie up the story and deal with the cliffhanger ending.

At this point, I just wish people would realize that if it ever comes, which it probably won’t, it will never, ever live up to their expectations. We’re better off without it. Nobody wants to see Valve pull a Duke Nukem Forever on this series, and I think we’re long past the point where pretty much anything they release won’t fall into that category.

I could go for some Portal 3 though.

Article: OG Eliminated as Chinese Dota Reaches Peak Dominance

Comment: Yeah, kinda thinking this is the year that the pattern gets broken. Games so far have been really great.

Article: Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen Finally Headed to Xbox One and PS4

Comment: I got this game back when it was free on PS3. One of the best PS+ games I ever downloaded. The combat was fun and the world was expansive. I never did finish it though. Might have to look into this.

Article: FFXIV Has Surpassed 10 Million Players, is Now Top 10 Subscriber-Based MMO in History

Comment: A) its about time SE used the momentum to make an FFXIV anime (with a good writer and budget, it would synergize well)

B) SE needs to give Yoshi a even bigger budget, so its even more raid friendly (more raids / content)

Article: Official Overwatch Hero Playtimes Revealed, Roadhog Circles the Drain

Comment: Nothing surprising there. Except that Sombra is still bad. How long Blizz? How long must she be bottom tier?

Forum Thread: Anyone Else Into Comics?

Comment: I go through bursts of following comics. I, too, tend to follow Batman comics when I do so, though I’ve followed a bunch of X-Men over the years, and now some Deadpool after enjoying the movie so much. Also have read the first few TPBs of Fables, which is really good.

Like MattAY, though, I have read more manga over the years than I have other comics. I’m not really following anything at the moment.

Article: Tell GR: What’s Your Favorite Competitive Game?

Comment: Smite by far due to the incredibly fun competitive scene and memes. Due to Smite’s higher skill cap than the competition (Dota 2 and LoL), the plays are much more interesting to watch, especially thanks to the third person view and fun abilities.

Article: Friday the 13th: The Game Removes Team-Killing Almost Entirely

Comment: Friendly fire damage for the sake of tension and challenge never EVER works outside of friends only games. People can and will abuse friendly fire damage for the lulz.

Article: Ranking the Remaining Lower Bracket Teams at the Dota 2 International

Comment: It would mostly seem like hindsight now, but I would not have expected DC to beat LGD. The fact that they got beat with Abed Meepo just drives home the point.
