Rumor: New Nintendo Direct September 2022 Coming Next Week

A new Nintendo Direct is rumored to arrive “early next week,” according to a tweet by industry insider Jeff Grubb. Yesterday, Grubb noted that another insider named Quarterdann (Dan Ryckert) on Giant Bomb’s Twitch channel said that the Nintendo Direct that is rumored to be scheduled next week could be delayed due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Of course, it’s difficult to say whether something can be “delayed” when Nintendo never officially announced the start time and date for the Direct.

What will this new Nintendo Direct show?

In the tweet, Grubb projects that the Nintendo Direct is still coming with not many changes to the date:

“OK. It does sound like the Direct is still on. If it gets moved around, it will probably be a very minor adjustment. Expect it early next week.”

This falls in line with his prior statement at the end of August, in an episode of Last of the Nintendogs with GamesBeat editor Mike Minotti, where Grubb said that he heard from “a good source” that the next Nintendo Direct would fall on the week of September 12th. There were apparently rumors swirling around that it could have aired this week, but he was unsure that Nintendo would want to run it on the same week as Labor Day. Given that Nintendo has released some sort of Nintendo Direct in September since 2016, it’s expected that one is coming soon at any rate.

Both Minotti and Grubb agree that whenever this Nintendo Direct is held, it will likely feature Zelda in a major way. Both are confident that new Switch remasters of various Zelda games like Twilight Princess and Wind Waker would be announced. It would also be a good time to announce the actual name of the Breath of the Wild sequel. Otherwise, with lesser confidence, a new Metroid Prime Remastered, Fire Emblem game, and Kid Icarus Uprising HD remaster could be shown as well.

In other news, a Stalker 2 delay is likely after Xbox pre-orders have been canceled, and Eidos Montreal now owns both the Deus Ex and Thief franchises after the Embracer Group acquisition.
