Pikmin 4 Release Date Window Revealed During Nintendo Direct

Shigeru Miyamoto appeared on the latest Nintendo Direct to announce the Pikmin 4 release date window as 2023. Not much else is known about the Nintendo Switch game as Miyomoto says that Nintendo is not ready to show gameplay footage of the next main Pikmin game. The trailer that came with the announcement is more of a teaser, lasting about 20 seconds. But let’s see what we can extract from what little was shown.

What the Pikmin 4 trailer teaser shows

Pikmin 4 Release Date Window

First, we see a white butterfly on top of a yellow flower, before we see a shot of the underside of a bench. Then there’s a sleeping creature next to a blue fence that seems to have a stopwatch attached to it. Given this and the first screenshot shared above, it looks like one of the levels in the game will be the backyard or a park of some sort.

Miyamoto expands on this sneak peek by saying that Pikmin 4 will allow you to play the game close to the ground, instead of a isometric viewpoint, from the Pikmin’s perspective. He says the the Switch’s controls allow for “Dandori” in the game, or “strategically planning, deploying, and commanding the Pikmin.” He also humorously points out that he made a new Pikmin 4 T-shirt, a simple white shirt with a green ‘P’ with the hole covered by a white daisy. Perhaps we’ll see this clean shirt in the Nintendo Store or as part of the My Nintendo rewards.
