Halo: The Master Chief Collection Latest Update Adds Floodfight and More

Halo Infinite may be taking up most of the headlines right now, but that doesn’t mean 343 Industries has forgotten about Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The Halo MCC April update that just arrived this week adds Floodfight mode, cross-platform co-op, campaign customization, and more.

Halo MCC

The Halo: The Master Chief Collection April update is available now and adds many new features to several of its titles. The first is the addition of the Flood to Firefight in Halo 3: ODST. New enemies like Elites and an upgraded Flood have been added to various Arcade variants in Firefight matchmaking. The Flood will now be submerged in a dense fog that will fade when ordinary Covenant waves spawn and they can occupy vehicles too. There are three new Flood Combat Forms – the infected civilian, the infected ODST, and the infected Elite Major – meaning that dead ODSTs can be resurrected to fight against you. New boons like weapon racks, flamethrowers, and allies will help to balance the fight.

Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST have now got cross-platform campaign co-op across PC and Xbox consoles. This feature is currently flagged as experimental and the developer is looking for feedback from players with different network setups. There’s also campaign weapon customization for Halo 4, similar to that already in place for Halo 3 and Halo: Combat Evolved.

A total of 51 new medals have been added to Halo 3 multiplayer while others have been fixed. Various medal settings mean players can turn them off completely, view just the original medals, or view all of them. Monthly challenges are now called Tactical Exercises and seasonal challenges have been tweaked. Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 3: ODST have gotten new skulls, although some of these are also experimental and may have some unwanted side effects.

There are also user interface improvements, Custom Game Browser changes, and alterations to Forge and mod tools. You can see a full list of patch notes on the Halo Waypoint site.

In other news, PSVR 2 has reportedly been delayed to 2023. Elsewhere, Bugsnax will be coming to new platforms later this month when it hits Nintendo Switch, PC and Xbox consoles.
