Halo Master Chief Collection Microtransactions

Halo: The Master Chief Collection May Get Microtransactions and Fans are Upset

Halo: The Master Chief Collection may well be celebrating its 8th birthday this year, but 343 Industries still has plans to add to the game in 2022, and one of those plans may be microtransactions. Unfortunately, fans of the game don’t seem to be too happy with the decision to change Season Points into Spartan Points and offer premium bundles in Halo MCC.

Adding microtransactions into Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Halo MCC

As Halo: The Master Chief Collection has aged, it has accumulated more than a thousand customization items like armor, attachments, nameplates, weapon skins, vehicle skins, armor effects, and Firefight voices. 343 Industries is aware this may appear to be an intimidating amount of items to a newcomer, or a player who can’t dedicate huge amounts of time to multiplayer matches. There are also those who just want to collect everything, and the option to earn Points simply by leveling up and completing challenges may not be enough for these people. This is where the microtransactions come in.

The game has moved away from a seasonal model even if players can still earn points in the ways they have done all along. With this in mind, Season Points will be renamed to Spartan Points in a future update. Once this happens, 343 is “internally exploring a potential new feature for the future in the form of purchasable Spartan Points”. These would be “an optional, additive alternative” for players and will not replace the current methods of earning points.

The intention to put microtransactions in Halo MCC has upset many fans of the game who have taken to the game’s forums to voice their opinions, as compiled on Reddit. The majority of complaints center around 343’s previous promises not to monetize the game with microtransactions, which is fairly understandable. Others are blaming Halo Infinite’s struggles on its store and microtransactions and are citing this as a lesson to be learned. More details are promised for the future and only then will players find out what the developer has planned for the collection.

In other gaming news, Skull & Bones is expected to be re-revealed next month alongside a release date. Elsewhere, Pokemon Snap has been added to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library today.
