With Halo Infinite Season 2 arriving in approximately two weeks on May 3, developer 343 Industries has decided to explain in much greater detail the three multiplayer modes in the upcoming season called “Lone Wolves”: King of the Hill, Land Grab, and Last Spartan Standing. Fans of Halo Infinite have been clamoring for more content in the game and more transparency by the developer, so 343 Industries hopes that a deeper delve into these new game types will better communicate future changes to the community.
What are the rules for Halo Infinite Season 2 King of the Hill, Land Grab, and Last Spartan Standing?
Through a blog post on Halo Waypoint that features a Q&A with Zach Boyce, a multiplayer modes and systems designer for Halo Infinite, 343 Industries describes how King of the Hill, Land Grab, and Last Spartan will operate.
King of the Hill and Last Spartan Standing will be available at the beginning of Season 2, with Last Spartan Standing featured as the first Seasonal Event. Land Grab will then launch a month into the season during the Fracture: Entrenched event, after which the mode will be available for players to experience throughout the Season. If these modes are received well enough by the community, they will be placed into the regular playlist rotation.
For the returning King of the Hill mode, the developers have decided to tweak how hills spawn on the map and how scoring works. Players entering a hill uncontested will build a capture meter for their team, and when the meter is full, the team will score one point and the hill will immediately spawn somewhere else on the map.
Last Spartan Building is only somewhat inspired by Battle Royale modes, with 12 players fighting free-for-all on a Big Team Battle map (in this case, the new Breaker map) with a confined loadout and only five respawns. To dissuade players from camping and storing respawns, Spartans can level up by building their Personal Score primarily through kills and assists. Then, similar to Escalation Slayer rules, every level up earns players an upgrade for their weapon, giving them a better chance to be the last one remaining at the end of the match.
Harkening back to the Territories game type from Halo 2 and 3, Land Grab looks to be more frenetic in pace as teams attempt to capture neutral zones on the map to be the first to score 11 points. Three neutral zones will spawn at the beginning of the match, and capturing a zone will lock it out and score the team one point. Once all neutral zones are captured, three additional zones will spawn, forcing team members to coordinate their movements strategically. To make Land Grab matches more hotly contested near the end, only two neutral zones will spawn if a team is one point away from winning. If both teams are one point away from victory, then only one neutral zone will spawn.
In other news, a new Tales From the Borderlands game has been announced at PAX East, and the Nintendo Switch Online trial for Dragon Quest Builders 2 is running now and will last until April 26.
