PSVR 2 Release Date Delay

Rumor: PSVR 2 Release Date Delayed to 2023

Originally forecasted to be the holiday season in 2022, the PSVR 2 release date is reportedly being pushed to next year in 2023. A well-informed industry analyst believes that shipments of virtual reality displays will be delayed, impacting technology companies including Sony.

What is the PlayStation VR 2 release date?

Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, has stated in a tweet that he anticipates that virtual reality display shipments will increase by 50% to almost 15 million units in 2022. While this bodes well for the demand for VR headsets like PSVR 2 with a “big jump” forecasted in 2023, he believes that there will be “delays to 2023 at Apple and Sony.”

Although this is technically a rumor since there has been no word of an official PSVR 2 release date from Sony, Young is a reputable analyst in the industry not known for outlandish claims.

The prediction that the PSVR 2 release date would be pushed to 2023 isn’t entirely new. YouTube channel PSVR Without Parole, which accurately predicted the existence of Horizon: Call of the Mountain, said that it would be launched in Q1 2023 not necessarily due to the lack of supply for the PS5, saying that “the PSVR 2 can’t succeed without a great PS5 install base.”

Hopefully by the holiday season this year, the infamous chip shortage will have subsided enough to allow more people to purchase the PS5 without having to accept the exorbitant prices from scalpers or expensive packages that bundle the console with an unnecessary amount of additional accessories.

The PSVR 2 headset was quietly demoed behind closed doors at GDC 2022, where multiple developers under NDA were still impressed with the specs of the headset, according to PlayStationLifestyle.

In other news, Bugsnax which was a launch title for PS5 will be arriving on Xbox Game Pass, Steam, and Switch later this month, and Netflix has revealed the Stranger Things 4 trailer and release date.
