EA Play Live Canceled 2022 Electronic Arts

EA Cancels EA Play Live for 2022

EA has decided not to hold its usual EA Play Live event this year. Given the cancelation of the in-person event for the upcoming E3 2022 in June, it’s not too surprising to find that EA Play Live, which coincides with the event, has been effectively split apart.

EA Play Live canceled in favor of smaller segments throughout the year

Similar to Nintendo Direct presentations and Sony’s State of Play segments, EA has decided to break up the news that would have been melded together in its EA Play Live event and deliver them throughout the year when it’s most appropriate. An EA representative reached out to IGN to share a statement:

“We love EA Play Live as it’s our way of connecting with our players and sharing what’s new with all of you. However, this year things aren’t lining up to show you everything on one date. We have exciting things happening at our world-class studios and this year we’ll reveal much more about these projects when the time is right for each of them. We look forward to spending time with you throughout the year!”

The EA Play event started in 2016 as a way for players to try the publisher’s upcoming roster of games, but was reconfigured into a streaming format last year. The usual season of summer gaming events is attempting to make a comeback with Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest and Gamescom returning this year. However, it is still unclear whether E3 2022 will have an online component.

As for news that EA could reveal over the coming year, it plans to release Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order 2 by the end of 2022 and EA Motive is still hard at work making the Dead Space remake. We can also expect updates for The Sims 4, Apex Legends, and Battlefield 2042.

In other news, Electronic Arts could take over the license for WWE games, and PlayStation’s State of Play will feature a 20-minute segment exclusively for Hogwarts Legacy.
