Eternals is now the worst-scoring MCU movie on Rotten Tomatoes

The Marvel’s Eternals Rotten Tomatoes score now shows the latest Marvel film as the worst-scoring Marvel Cinematic Universe movie ever made, making it critically the worst MCU movie. The Eternals movie score already marked Marvel’s latest as lower than the recent Guardians of the Galaxy game, but now that more Eternals reviews have made their way to Rotten Tomatoes it now has the lowest of any MCU movie — a week before the general release date.

What is the Eternals Rotten Tomatoes score?

The Rotten Tomatoes score for Eternals currently stands at 65%, which is the lowest score for any movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The audience score has not yet been rated since the release date is November 5 theatrically with a much later Disney Plus release planned.

For comparison, the previous worst-scoring movie Thor: The Dark World stands at 66% with an audience score of 75%, with The Incredible Hulk at 67% and a slightly lower score of 70% from the audience. Captain Marvel has a critical score of 79% but easily the lowest audience with 45%. The only MCU projects lower than Eternals are the TV series Inhumans and Iron Fist.

Why is the Eternals Rotten Tomatoes score so low?

Avoiding any spoilers, the critics’ main complaints center around the story, the characters, the look, and trying to do too much. The story is described as having a lack of logic and featuring “clumsy and interminable exposition.” Character development has been described as akin to Justice League, which had to establish several major heroes as well as tell its story — except Eternals has more characters and none of them have been introduced previously. The look is “dominated by grays and browns” and with everything looking washed-out. The ending is “surprisingly abrupt” too, apparently.

Audiences will have the chance to make their own minds up about Eternals when it launches on November 5 in theaters.
