As Marvel continues its multimedia dominance, the entertainment giant’s two latest projects are surprising fans for different reasons. Eternals movie review scores are lower than those for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, according to leading aggregator Metacritic. Hopes were high for Eternals’ cinematic prospects, while, following the disastrous launch of Marvel’s Avengers, most weren’t holding out much hope for the new GotG game. In reality, those who engage with both mediums might need to flip their expectations completely.
Guardians of the Galaxy game reviews are better than Eternals movie
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy game for Xbox Series X boasts an average review score of 83/100 on Metacritic. The Eternals movie average review score sits at a disappointingly average 58/100, by comparison.
Owing to its all-star cast and prominent placement within Phase 4 of the MCU canon, many fans were expecting a lot from the Eternals movie. Yet, the film is attracting almost as many mixed as positive critic reviews prior to its public launch; clearly, it’s a divisive piece of filmmaking. While there are no outright negative reviews on the board just yet, the somewhat lukewarm response isn’t doing much to enthuse cinemagoers.
Meanwhile, Square Enix’s Avengers video game did a lot to dampen the excitement for its proceeding Guardians of the Galaxy adaptation. According to the critical consensus, however, GotG is a far superior product exceeding all expectations. The Xbox Series X version currently sits at a very healthy 83 average, while the PS5 version boasts 81, and the PC version trails slightly at 72. With that in mind, Marvel fans might want to prioritize playing the Guardians game over watching Eternals in movie theatres.
