Evil Dead game won’t be in VR, confirms Bruce Campbell

Alright you primitive screw-heads, listen up! Ash Williams himself, Bruce Campbell, not only confirmed that the previously mentioned Evil Dead game is still in the works and coming to consoles and PC, but he also stated that it won’t be releasing on VR platforms.

Campbell took to Twitter to give some clarity on the platforms the upcoming Evil Dead video game will be launching on. According to Campbell’s tweet, the game is being developed for consoles and PC, but not for VR. He then apologized for the confusion followed by the fun hashtag, “#MyBoomstickIsTooBigForVR.”

The “confusion” stems from a statement Campbell made in an interview from May 2019 giving the allusion the upcoming Evil Dead game would be a VR title, stating the game would be “fully immersive.” It turns out that is not the case. What we do know is that the game is in production and that Campbell himself will be voicing Ash because he “wouldn’t want someone else’s voice hamming it up.” Details on which console platforms the game would appear on were not specified.

This is not Ash’s first rodeo in the video game space. There have been a few based on the Evil Dead franchise that can be found on PS2, Xbox, Dreamcast, and PC. The last console game based on the popular horror movie series was Evil Dead: Regeneration which released in 2005 for Xbox, PS2, and PC. Outside of the Evil Dead universe, Bruce Campbell has provided voice work for other video games, most notably as the narrator in the beloved Spider-Man 2 game for PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and PC.

More recently, Evil Dead Ash DLC released for Dead By Daylight earlier this year allowing you to play as the snarky badass in the game. You can’t use his boomstick, but you can certainly run away in style. There have also been rumors that he would appear as a DLC fighter in Mortal Kombat 11, which Campbell himself has shot down and also fueled. That chainsaw noise at the end of Shang Tsung trailer implies that Ash could be joining the game, but probably not Twisted Metal‘s Sweet Tooth.
