New Evil Dead Game in the Works, Bruce Campbell Confirms

It seems that Bruce Campbell isn’t ready to call quits on Evil Dead just yet. The actor, best known for his iconic role as Ash Williams in the supernatural horror franchise, had been set to call time on playing the character after Starz cancelled the Ash vs Evil Dead TV series after three seasons, as per the Hollywood Reporter.

That has all changed, however, after a report from Bloody Disgusting revealed that Campbell had confirmed that a new title in the Evil Dead videogame series was already in production. It’s been seven years since the last edition in the franchise – 2011’s Evil Dead: The Game – was released on iOS, and a whopping 34 years since the original game was brought to the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum.

Speaking to Bloody Disgusting’s Meagan Navarro about the possibility of really ending his career as Ash Williams, Campbell alluded to the fact that he had prior “obligations” to fill in the franchise, before he went on to include his confirmation in any new video game. He stated: “Oh no no, that’s different. I have previous obligations I have to fulfil. They are doing a video game. A whole immersive kind of dealio. I’ll be Ash for that, because I wouldn’t want someone else’s voice hamming it up.”

In total, six previous video games based on Evil Dead have been released on platforms such as the Playstation 2, Xbox, Dreamcast and PC, but the last two iterations have only seen the light of day on smartphones. Whether that is down to a lack of interest from those who play on PC or consoles is up for debate and, whilst the next installment may only come to mobiles as well, Campbell seems keen to reprise the role he is best known for. The Evil Dead movie franchise has pocketed a respectable $154m worldwide from the four films that have been released, with 2013’s Evil Dead scooping up the most cash with $97.4m to its name globally.
