Shadow of the Tomb Raider Sales Debut Fails to Topple Spider-Man in the UK

Shadow of the Tomb Raider has debuted at second place in the UK while Spider-Man PS4 managed to hold onto its dominance at the top spot for the second consecutive week. Shadow of the Tomb Raider sales debut was actually higher than the previous title in the trilogy, 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider. Despite that achievement, the latest installment of Lara Croft’s adventure received a multiplatform release, unlike its predecessor, which was an Xbox One exclusive at launch.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, 64 percent of Shadow of the Tomb Raider sales was from PS4 owners, with only 37 percent coming from Xbox One owners. However, keep in mind that these numbers do not include digital sales. The UK charts only take physical retail copies into account. On the other hand, reigning champion Spider-Man‘s week two sales have merely decreased 42 percent in comparison to last week, which is an impressive feat of momentum for the PS4 exclusive.

Another new game also entered the UK charts this week, and it’s NBA 2K19. It managed to debut at third place, with over 65 percent of sales on the PS4 alone. In the top ten charts, the basketball sports game was followed by the likes of Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, GTA V, F1 2018, The Elder Scrolls Online, Lego The Incredibles, and Super Mario Odyssey.

Meanwhile, Dragon Quest XI Echoes of an Elusive Age fell all the way from second place to twenty-ninth. That’s a massive 86 percent sales drop for the promising new JRPG from Square Enix, which was originally released for the PS4 and PC on September 4, 2018. Additionally, Destiny 2 Forsaken also experienced a huge drop in sales, falling to number twenty-six in the UK charts. It seems that the initial hype over the new Forsaken expansion has pretty much dwindled since its launch.
