Spider-Man has outperformed expectations in the United Kingdom if the latest stats on its sales numbers are anything to go by. We know the game has been popular, but apparently Insomniac Games‘ latest has been popular enough to top UK sales charts as the fastest-selling title of the year in that region to date. Spider-Man sales have been through the roof, and it has kept pace with previous heavy-hitters like God of War.
Spider-Man isn’t only the current reigning king of quick sales in the UK. It’s also the nippiest Marvel game in the UK’s history of sales and has moved the most units within the shortest amount of time amongst recent PS4 exclusives. It’s clear that the game has picked up a lot of accolades recently in this particular region, even though it doesn’t quite reach the level of being the fastest-selling game of all time in the UK. The charts still include a lot of perennial favorites like PUBG and Grand Theft Auto V, so for Spider-Man to make a splash at the top spot so convincingly can only be a positive thing if you’re a fan of what Insomniac Games has been doing.
It’s also important to note that UK charts exclude sales that are conducted digitally. This means that the numbers proclaiming that Spider-Man has the top spot only take into account the sales of physical copies so essentially, this isn’t a foolproof number to rely on. That being said, it’s pretty admirable that the game’s done this well in a timeframe packed with other big releases like Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.
It’s also interesting to note that other big-ticket titles like Far Cry 5 have been overtaken by our resident skyscraper-crawling superhero’s escapades. The game is clearly still flying high on its first week sales and we can’t see what heights it’ll swing to next.
