There's been a smattering of minor Nintendo news today, most notably that the company has scheduled its next Nintendo Direct live broadcast. The Direct will take place on Wednesday, April 12th at 3PM PT, with a focus on upcoming titles Arms and Splatoon 2. Per a press release regarding the stream, it will also cover general "information about upcoming Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS games," so you never know what else might be in store.
Elsewhere, the upcoming Fire Emblem Gaiden remake Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia received a brief new trailer via Nintendo UK, highlighting the game's battle system. Battles in Echoes deviate from the tried-and-true weapons triangle, but remain familiar is most other ways (not to mention the dungeon crawling-lite being added to the game). The trailer also features brief segments from the title's 2D anime-style cutscenes, as well as a look at some of the in-game character art.
Recently, extensive information regarding Shadows of Valentia was leaked via ROM-dump of the Japanese version, including high-res character art, technical battle and spell information, and even plot details. Some of the information is spoiler-safe, but as always it's wise to be careful if you prefer entering new releases without preconceived info or notions. The incident raises questions about leaks in gaming, though admittedly this instance was not terribly severe compared to prior offenses with other games.
The upcoming Nintendo Direct will stream on Nintendo's YouTube channel, while the Fire Emblem spot can be found on its UK channel. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is scheduled to release for Nintendo 3DS on May 19th, and should serve as a lovely swan song for Nintendo's clamshell 3D handheld.
