Rumor: Nintendo Cancels Wii U Development Of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Japanese website Koji is reporting that the Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been canceled. The cancelation has occurred just months prior to its expected launch.

Originally intended to be a Wii U exclusive, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has most recently been used as a primary instrument for marketing the soon-to-be-released Nintendo Switch. Rumors have indicated that development of the title was quickly shifted to the new platform due to significant limitations imposed when running on Wii U.

Nintendo recently halted production of the Wii U spelling the end of its 4 year lifespan due to low demand.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is schedule for an early 2017 launch.
