First seen in the Doctor Strange 2 trailers revealing Strange Supreme, the third eye is a curious addition to the character’s otherwise very human face. Now it has fans asking questions about why he has an extra eye and, as it seems tied to the use of dark magic, has Doctor Strange now turned evil. Here’s the need-to-know info on the Doctor Strange 2 third eye reveal.
Why does Doctor Strange have a third eye?
Doctor Strange gets a third eye after his interactions with the Darkhold, a dark spellbook that he ultimately uses to manipulate a dead version of himself to stop Wanda in the Multiverse of Madness.
At the end of Doctor Strange 2, Strange collapses in the street. Coming to, a third eye suddenly appears on his forehead.
The third eye is seen earlier in the movie with Strange Supreme, who has the third eye and is guarding the Darkhold of that universe.
Has Doctor Strange turned evil at the end of Multiverse of Madness?
While there’s a clear link between the Darkhold and Doctor Strange’s third eye, it doesn’t appear to have totally overwritten the good in the sorcerer.
In the post-credits scene, the eye appears on Doctor Strange’s head after he agrees to assist Clea with fixing the Incursion between universes. The extra eye shares the confident expression of his other two eyes and it appears that he has got some control over it and whatever dark magic it is linked to. For now, at least!
Expect to see the third eye popping up again in future Doctor Strange movies and TV shows.
