She-Hulk Episode 4: Has Donny Blaze Replaced Johnny Blaze as the MCU’s Ghost Rider?

As She-Hulk: Attorney at Law continues on Disney Plus, the series introduces a bunch of fresh faces with each passing episode. This week’s offering was no exception, as audiences met the magician Donny Blaze. With a familiar surname that has Marvel fans wondering if there is more to the character than first appears, could the MCU have introduced a new version of the superhero Ghost Rider, aka Johnny Blaze?

Is Donny Blaze the MCU’s version of Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze?

An early trailer for She-Hulk had many speculating that Ghost Rider could be introduced, as it featured a poster for Blaze’s magic show. Many assumed that the performer would be called Johnny, but the show’s writers have clearly been having some fun, as he’s actually called Donny. Having trained at Kamar-Taj, the wannabe magician eventually left, but not before swiping a sling ring that gives him the ability to create an Inter-Dimensional Portal to another location or realm.

Despite all of his ability, and the inclusion of demons in She-Hulk episode 4, it’s unlikely that Donny is going to become Ghost Rider. There was no mention of the Spirit of Vengeance, to which Johnny Blaze became bound after making a deal with Mephisto. There is always the chance that he could be a distant relative of the character, who could be introduced in the future. With the MCU now introducing more supernatural elements, it would be a surprise not to see Ghost Rider at some point down the line — the Robbie Reyes version of the character has already appeared in Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., after all.

Will the Midnight Sons come to the MCU?

We may be moving towards a point in the MCU where a version of the team, the Midnight Sons, is established. Both Doctor Strange and Wong have served as leaders of the group in the comic books, with members including Blaze’s Ghost Rider, and even Blade, who has officially become a part of Marvel’s future plans with a solo movie set for release in November 2023. That would serve as the perfect entry point for Ghost Rider, as even more elements of fantasy and the supernatural will be at the center of the proceedings.

Moon Knight, Morbius, and Iron Fist have all also been members of the Midnight Sons, so if zombies, demons, or something else untoward threatens Earth, they could be called upon to come together and eliminate the threat. There are countless paths that the MCU could tread, so we’ll be keeping our eyes open for any more clues as to which direction those at Marvel Studios choose.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law continues Thursdays on Disney Plus.
