Battlefield 2042 Player Count Compared To Other Battlefield Games: Which Game Is the Most Popular on Steam?

Ever since Battlefield 2042 launched, the player count has been dwindling and it has dropped significantly in recent months compared to its peak at launch of more than 100,000 concurrent users. But how exactly does the game stack up against previous Battlefield games and how well is it performing right now. Here we will look at the stats for an array of Battlefield titles on Steam and see which is the most popular among fans.

Is Battlefield 2042 the most popular Battlefield game on Steam?

At its peak when Battlefield 2042 was first released back in November 2021 the game was being played by more than 100,000 players at the same time according to SteamDB. This is a respectable figure for any new release but things started to sour. At the time of writing, Battlefield 2042 has less than 3,000 players online on Steam and a 24-hour high of just 3,545. The data from the site indicates that users started leaving before the beginning of September and despite a slight boost in January, it has failed to maintain a steady player count in the tens of thousands.

What is even more concerning for DICE and EA is that older Battlefield games are performing either just as well or much better than the latest release. Battlefield V has had a 24-peak of 21,000, almost seven times more than Battlefield 2042. Meanwhile, Battlefield 1 has similar current players but a much higher 24-hour peak of 9,388 while Battlefield 4 has had a high of 2,174 over the last 24 hours. That’s only 1,400 less than Battlefield 2042 despite the fact that it launched more than eight years ago in 2013.

Battlefield 2042 launched to an overwhelmingly negative critical reception and has been heavily panned by fans of the series. The response was so bad that EA has pushed back the Season 1 release date until summer rather than March, further enraging players who wanted to see much-requested features like a scoreboard and additional content to help make the first-person shooter more engaging.

In other news, Microsoft has revealed the titles coming as part of May’s Xbox Games with Gold, while a Skull and Bones gameplay leak has shown off multiplayer and world events.
