The Fall Guys player count is a curious point of interest considering that the game went free-to-play last week on June 21. Mediatonic had a smash success with the game at launch back in August 2020 with over 170,000 players trying the game on Steam, but it has fallen sharply in concurrent users over the last year and a half since then. So how much has the recent F2P transition boosted the number of players? Is Fall Guys popular again?
What is the Fall Guys player count after going free-to-play?
The current number of players for Fall Guys on Steam is, at the time of this writing, somewhere between 20,000 and 55,000 players depending on the time of day, according to Steam Charts. This is high enough to place the game in 16th position on Steam Charts’ Top Games by current players. While these figures aren’t as impressive as those during the game’s launch month, specifically 150,000 players at the end of August 2022, they are a significant increase from just a few weeks ago. For the day before the free-to-play launch, there were anywhere between 6,000 and 11,500 players. This means that the transition has multiplied the player pool by at least threefold.
Also note that this is only based on Steam figures, so the spike in player count could be even larger than that on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles. Moreover, Fall Guys is no longer available to download on Steam, with the game now being exclusive on Epic Games Store. According to an official tweet by the platform, Fall Guys had “more than 2x their previous PC CCU record,” though it didn’t share much more than that.
While we don’t know (and won’t likely know) the exact number of the game’s concurrent players on non-Steam platforms, it was enough to take the Fall Guys servers down. Looking on the bright side, this is a “good” problem for Mediatonic to have, as it shows that more people were trying to get into the game than it could handle. This bodes well for the game’s extended lifecycle and hopefully means that its player base will remain high through the remainder of the year.
