You’ll need to grow your powers in order to progress through Halo Infinite. However, not all of the abilities and upgrades will be available from the start. To make matters more complicated, some upgrades are better suited to new players than others. Fortunately, we can help you figure out which abilities and upgrades you should focus on first to have an easier time down the line.
Which Halo Infinite abilities to level up first
In Halo Infinite, the abilities you should level up first are:
- Shield Core, which increases overall vitality
- Grappleshot, which adds stun and shockwave abilities to the grappling hook
- Drop Wall, which reduces cooldown and increases Drop Wall strength
Each of these abilities will require Spartan Cores in order to upgrade. You’ll find these as you explore the game’s semi-open world. Furthermore, the price increases at each tier: The tier two upgrades cost two Spartan Cores, while upgrade tiers three and four cost three Spartan Cores.
This is why it’s important to focus on smart upgrades early. By upgrading your Shield Core first, you’ll simply have better chances of survival. The more health you have, the longer you can stay in the fight. You may even consider spending your first three Spartan Cores here.
After that, focus on the grappling gun. It’s very useful for basic map traversal, but there’s more. The first upgrade for the Grappleshot allows it to stun enemies, providing new defensive and offensive opportunities. The second upgrade is also the tool’s only cooldown upgrade, offering a 40 percent cooldown reduction.
Finally, there’s the Drop Wall. Not only is it critical for defensive strategies, but the first upgrade is its only cooldown reduction. Spending just one Spartan Core allows you to use the Drop Wall as quickly and often as possible, even if its strength isn’t yet fully upgraded.
After the first few tiers of Shield Core, Grappleshot, and Drop Wall, you can feel free to spend Spartan Cores as you please. Threat Sensor upgrades are great for battlefield awareness, but as early upgrades go, it’s hard to beat simple Shield Core upgrades. Fortunately, if you know how to find Spartan Cores, you shouldn’t have trouble reaching higher tiers.
