How to get Villager to move out in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
As stated above, you might want a Villager to move out of your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island for a variety of reasons. You could want to make room for your favorite Villager to move in (there’s a maximum of ten allowed at any time). It could be as simple as you not liking a Villager for any reason. No judgment here, no matter how cruel and unfriendly it all sounds. Thankfully, getting a Villager to leave is a relatively straightforward process.

If you want to make a Villager leave in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can follow these steps:
- Don’t speak to the Villager you wish to leave
- Give them the silent treatment until you see a cloud appear over their head
- Remember to speak to other Villagers to really drill in the ‘making the Villager you want to leave lonely’ angle
- Speak to them when you see the cloud bubble over their head
- Answer correctly when they tell you that they have been thinking about moving out
Unfortunately, this process can take some time. It does seem like a cruel process to put the friendly critter through, too. While the process can seem slow, this seems to be the most effective way of making a Villager leave in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
If you’d rather go behind the Villager’s back, however, you can. Speak to Isabelle at the upgraded Residential Services building and choose the ‘Discuss a resident’ option. Give your reasoning behind the complaint here. If you complain about a Villager often enough, they will want to leave. Again, this can take a few days of complaints, if it works at all.
Villagers can randomly leave, too, it seems. You can persuade a Villager to stay if they tell you that they wish to leave, but that’s up to you. Any Villager may want to leave eventually, which might be affected by visitors from other islands talking to them (as we think it did in previous Animal Crossing games). We’ve certainly had our Villagers moving into our friends’ towns in New Leaf, for example.
