How the Eternals ending and post-credits scenes set up Eternals 2
The ending and credits scenes of Eternals directly set up a sequel, right up to the card at the very end that states that “the Eternals will return.” The ending features the surviving Eternals splitting off into two groups — with one set lead by Sersi (Gemma Chan) staying on Earth and the others, including Thena (Angelina Jolie), heading off in the ship to find other Eternals and warn them of the Celestials’ plans. However, Sersi and the other Earth characters are scooped-up by their boss Celestial Arishem, who warns that its judgment is about to fall on Earth.
Both credits scenes set up Eternals 2 in some way. The mid-credits scene has been widely leaked sadly and features the spaceship Eternals encountering Harry Styles as Eros, the brother of Thanos, along with his compatriot Pip the Troll (Patton Oswalt). Eros warns that Arishem has taken the other Eternals and wants to help save them — Eros and Pip will undoubtedly play a large role in Eternals 2, whenever that happens.
The second credits scene sees Dane Whitman (Kit Harington) opening a box with a red bird symbol on it— which eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed earlier in the credits, alongside the images of how various Eternals throughout history. The box is marked “death is my reward” and contains a sinister sword wrapped in ancient cloth called the Ebony Blade. Dane Whitman in the comics is known as the Black Knight and this scene suggests he will embrace his heritage in the sequel — but it’s the offscreen voice that says “are you sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?” that has fans the most curious. Who is this?
Who is the voice at the end of Eternals?
The mysterious voice at the end of the movie belongs to Blade (Mahershala Ali), the vampire hunter previously played by Wesley Snipes in the ’90s movies, who makes his surprise Marvel Cinematic Universe debut here. It was previously reported that Blade would be out in 2022 but that date has most likely been pushed to 2023. Whether Kit Harington’s character Dane Whitman will feature in Blade or will strictly be saved for Eternals 2 remains to be seen — it is also possible that Blade could appear in Eternals 2.
