Crazy Video Game Fan Theories, PS Plus

Xbox Games With Gold and PS Plus predictions for May 2019

Sony’s PS Plus and Microsoft’s Games with Gold services have each featured a handful of notable titles during the year’s first quarter. The former offered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered and The Witness as part of its March 2019 lineup, while the latter has already included games like Celeste, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 as part of its catalog this year. If the recent past serves any indication, both companies may continue to offer their userbases an array of critically acclaimed titles to enjoy as 2019 moves forward. The following are some games that Sony and Microsoft may include as part of their platforms next month.

Doom 32x Soundtrack, PS Plus

Id Software’s latest diabolical creation, Doom, seems poised to be featured in either PS Plus or Games with Gold next month, seeing as how the reboot launched three years ago on May 13, 2016. As an unnamed space marine popularly referred to as the Doom Slayer, players are tasked with mutilating scores of demons from hell with weapons that include chainsaws, lightning guns, and the revered BFG.

Doom also boasts multiplayer functionality and a level creation tool called SnapMap, which allows fans to craft stages for solo, cooperative, and competitive play. The game’s inclusion on either platform this May will not only inject more life into its online community, but will also make more people aware of Doom Eternal‘s release later this year.

Bethesda may opt to forgo Doom next month in favor of another recent reboot in its portfolio. Prey released two years ago on May 5, 2017 and has players escape a space station that’s been overrun by a hostile alien species called the Typhon. Though protagonist Morgan Yu can use fun weapons like the GLOO cannon and Q-Beam to keep these shape-shifting creatures at bay, fans have to constantly pay attention to their surroundings if they hope to make it out alive.

Prey has two expansions, Mooncrash and Typhon Hunter, for those who already own the title. Their existence may further persuade the publisher to include the base game on either manufacturer’s service this May.

It’s odd that Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs hasn’t been featured in PS Plus’ lineup, seeing as how the open world hacker title was included in Xbox’s Games with Gold service back in June 2017. Originally released on May 27, 2014, the game’s inclusion on Sony’s platform could build up to surprises the publisher may have in store during this year’s E3 showcase.

Of course there’s a chance that its sequel may be featured on the service as well, seeing as how it released nearly three years ago. Video game fans everywhere deserve the chance to empty out a random pedestrian’s bank account. Sony and Ubisoft may finally make that dream a reality next month.

While PlayStation exclusives like Gravity Rush Remastered, Gravity Rush 2Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, and Knack 2 can all show up as part of North America’s PS Plus offerings next month, the most appropriate title for May would be Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, as it launched three years ago on May 10, 2016. Seeing how its previous iteration, Drake’s Deception, was featured in the platform’s June 2013 lineup, it seems probable that another Naughty Dog game will join the service soon.

May Games with Gold and PS Plus predictions | The indies

Agony Weird Baby, Beautiful Graphics, PS Plus

Agony traps players in the depths of hell with little to protect themselves from the merciless demons that stand in their path. This gory, gruesome title was released on May 29, 2018, making next month the perfect time for it to reintroduce itself to the masses through PS Plus or Games with Gold especially since it didn’t sell well when it came out. Though this won’t be the first time that video game fans venture into hell, it should be noted that Agony can disgust even seasoned horror enthusiasts. Look up instances of babies being used to build walls or mop floors to get an idea of what it has to offer.

There’s a good chance that Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon will show up on PS Plus next month too, as it was featured in Games with Gold’s February 2019 lineup and released one year ago on May 24, 2018. This Castlevania-inspired platformer cleverly blends its 8-bit aesthetic with a fluid gameplay system that encourages players to switch between three main characters. Miriam, Alfred, and Gebel each possess unique attributes that demand to be experimented with if one hopes to overcome many of the obstacles the game presents.

Curse of the Moon‘s appearance in PS Plus next month could serve as a great reminder of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night‘s upcoming release this year. It’s needless to say that its satisfying gameplay is indicative of great things to come from Koji Igarashi and his team.

Considering how Rime was featured in PS Plus’ February 2018 lineup, it’s possible that it’ll show up as part of next month’s Games with Gold offerings. Originally released on May 26, 2017, the game has players explore a mysterious island as a nameless boy. Though the young man doesn’t have access to an arsenal of dangerous weapons, his running, jumping, singing, and shouting are more than enough to solve Rime‘s assortment of environmental puzzles. The game serves as a nice change of pace from the typical violence that fans are used to.

While there’s no (legal) way of knowing what games will be featured in each service next month, there’s a good chance that Sony and Microsoft will want to maintain the momentum they’ve established since January. Fans may start to see more high profile titles like the aforementioned Doom, Prey, or Uncharted 4 on each platform sooner rather than later, especially with new hardware on the horizon. Though the platform holders benefit from increased subscriptions, third-party publishers can also profit through the sudden influx of new players. This may make wonders for titles that released years ago, as it encourages more DLC sales and helps revitalize online communities.

Sony and Microsoft seem to know what they’re doing with PS Plus and Games with Gold this year. Here’s hoping that neither runs out of steam in the near future.
