Iwata Sheds Light on Nintendo’s “Quality of Life” Platform

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has provided an updated notice for the Big N's shareholders, further fleshing out the company's plan for its still nebulous "Quality of Life" platform.

"With a platform business that improves people’s QOL in enjoyable ways, we will attempt to establish a new business area apart from our dedicated video game business," Iwata explained. "We have set “health” as the theme for our first step and we will try to use our strength as an entertainment company to create unique approaches that expand this business."

Of course, this is all about Nintendo's strategy to expand its audience, reaching health-conscious consumers that aren't interested in what the company is currently offering with its video games. "Through our new endeavors with the QOL-improving platform, we strive to further promote our existing strategy of expanding our user base, create an environment in which more people are conscious about their health and in turn expand Nintendo’s overall user base."

Do you think Nintendo's QOL platform will prove to be a success? We still don't know much about what exactly it will look like, but it's a bold move to say the least.
