Nintendo Switch Price Increase

Nintendo Switch Price Increase Not Happening, Company Confirms

Nintendo has confirmed they have no plans to raise the price of their Nintendo Switch console following news of the PS5 price increase yesterday. The company follows in the footsteps of Microsoft who also stated they will not be increasing the price of the Xbox Series X|S at the moment.

Will Nintendo Switch prices increase in the future?

Nintendo currently has “no plans” to increase the price of Nintendo Switch consoles or any of their hardware because of inflation or component supplies. This doesn’t mean a price increase can be ruled out in the future, but if a price increase does happen then it will be “through careful and continued deliberations” on Nintendo’s behalf. Here is the full statement provided to Eurogamer via a Nintendo spokesperson:

“As our president Mr Furukawa stated at the 82nd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in June:

“While we cannot comment on pricing strategies, we currently do not have any plans to change the price of our hardware due to inflation or increased procurement costs in each country. We will determine our future pricing strategies through careful and continued deliberations.”

While the final price to consumers is always determined by retailers, as Mr Furukawa stated, Nintendo has no plans to increase the trade price of its hardware.”

This statement is the most positive from all three of the major console providers. Sony, of course, increased the price of their PS5 consoles in almost all areas of the world with the exception of the US. Meanwhile, Microsoft said the Xbox Series X|S prices would remain at their current price but that they are “constantly evaluating our business“. Only time will tell if the latter follows Sony in increasing the price of their consoles.

In other gaming news, Hogwarts Legacy won’t have a morality system like other RPGs. Elsewhere, Warner Bros. did not have to cancel any games after new management took over following the merger with Discovery.
