Star Wars Galaxies Players Fight the Imminent Shutdown

With the release of Star Wars: The Old Republic looming, combined with the ever-dwindling player base in Star Wars: Galaxies, it wasn't surprising that Sony Online Entertainment announced last week that SWG would be closing its docking bay doors forever come December 15. It's also not too surprising that, given the recent rash of hacktivism and nerds in general taking matters into their own hands all across the internet, there would be a sizable backlash.

According to this article from noobfeed, disgruntled SWG players are taking all kinds of measures to fight the system, from starting up a class-action lawsuit (yeah, good luck on that one) to signing online petitions (another tried-and-true way to not get what you want) to promoting the insurgency on the forums. There's also apparently a "ring leader"the insurgents' Mon Mothma, if you will—who is being threatened with legal action and perma ban from SOE. So I guess Sony is using equally empty threats in retaliation.

Honestly, the whole thing is stupid, cause The Old Republic is going to be fucking awesome and no one's gonna even remember SWG even existed once it gets released.
