Star Wars Andor gets a Disney Plus release window of sometime this summer
A new Vanity Fair story detailing Disney’s upcoming plans for its slate of Star Wars shows on Disney Plus has revealed that Andor is coming to the streaming service later this summer. However, there hasn’t been any information about an exact release date, although will arrive before the sought-after third season of the Mandalorian. The latest entry in that particular series is due to his television screens in late 2022.
As well as giving fans an idea of when Andor will be available, the story also unveiled some key plot details about the new show. It will follow Rogue One’s Cassian Andor, played once again by Diego Luna, five years before the events of the movie. The series will track his origins and explain exactly why he joined the Rebellion after his home planet was destroyed. According to an interview with Luna, the show will also showcase his close relationship with Mon Mothma.
Tony Gilroy acted as co-writer and executive producer on the series, a fact that will likely reassure fans as he was previously involved in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The filmmaker was also the writer behind the Bourne series and the highly acclaimed Michael Clayton.
Disney has also lifted the lid on The Acolyte, a show that will explore the events leading up to the prequel trilogy. Set around 100 years before The Phantom Menace, it will take place during the height of the Galactic Republic. Amandla Stenberg is set to star in the series while Lesley Headland will act as showrunner.
