Japanese Retailer Suggesting End Of Wii U Production?

Japanese retailer Edion has a very interesting sign hanging in its store that suggests Nintendo's tablet-centric console is on sale as a result of the “end of production by the manufacturer.” Check out an image of the sign below, courtesy of Twitter user Guppy.

A full translation of the sign reads: "Limited time sale due to end of production by the manufacturer. Limited stock available!!" Naturally one might jump to the conclusion that Nintendo is ceasing production of Wii U in light of its poor sales, but that likely isn't the case.

DualShockers points out that "the sign most probably indicates the end of production of the “Family Premium Set,” which is indeed the bundle shown on the cart. The sign actually pinpoints the “Premium Set,” but the discrepancy may simply be due to the store not being very familiar with the difference."

So… is this all just one big mixup or is Wii U's life going to be cut short even earlier than expected? I'd wager Nintendo will keep the console on life support until at least 2015, with plans to release a new console in 2016 at the very earliest.
