Wii U 3DS eShops Closure Date

Wii U and 3DS eShops to Close a Month After Fire Emblem Fates is Delisted

Nintendo has issued an update on the closure of the Wii U and 3DS eShops, giving a final date for both stores to close as well as announcing that Fire Emblems Fate will be delisted from the store a month before they close. Nintendo hasn’t given a reason for the game’s delisting before the store closes.

Nintendo eShop Wii U 3DS Closure Date

Both the Wii U and 3DS eShops will close on March 27, 2023. From this date, players will no longer be able to purchase new content on the stores, nor will they be able to download any of the free games or demos that are still available. As a reminder, Nintendo eShop Cards can only be used to add funds to an account on the Wii U and 3DS stores until August 29, 2022. All download codes and funds can be spent on both stores until they close on March 27. After that point, any remaining funds on the Wii U and 3DS eShop balances will be transferred to the Switch as long as players link their Nintendo Network ID funds to their Nintendo account. Players will still be able to redownload previously purchased content beyond March 27.

The update also revealed the Fire Emblem Fates base game will be delisted from the 3DS store on February 28, 2023. The game’s DLC, including three downloadable story paths – Conquest, Birthright, and Revelation – accessible after the completion of Chapter 6, will remain on the store until it closes on March 27. While a reason for the early delisting wasn’t given, we’re assuming it is to give players enough time to reach the end of Chapter 6, at which point it is determined which of the three story paths they will own and need to download.

In other news, the Forza Horizon 5 Series 10 update has been detailed, including the new challenges and rewards available this season. Elsewhere, the latest Fortnite leak claims there will be a Dragon Ball crossover soon with skins from Goku, Vegeta, and Beerus.
