Activision has officially announced through a short trailer that Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Early Access will be making its way to the next Call of Duty game. Those who digitally pre-order the game will be able to play the campaign up to a week earlier, as soon as October 20 depending on the time zone and the region that players are in. Unlike the promotion for the MW2 Open Beta, it doesn’t look like this early access will be appearing on PlayStation consoles first.

The 30-second trailer above doesn’t reveal too much about the upcoming campaign, apart from some exploring through caverns, rappelling down skyscrapers, sniping in camouflage in the grass, and seemingly falling into a lake feet first with rifle in hand. Campaign Early Access promotions are generally popular with the fanbase, as this allows players to get through the main story quickly so that they can focus on gaining ranks in multiplayer instead at launch. If it’s anything like prior story modes in Call of Duty games, it’s expected that the campaign in Modern Warfare 2 will be around six hours long.
This trailer revealing the Campaign Early Access confirms prior rumors and datamines (by dataminer Reality) that found code in the latest update for Call of Duty Warzone that would reveal a message about the early access being made available. At the time, it was a surprise, although the Call of Duty franchise has had campaign early access promos before. In particular, PS4 players were able to their hands on the campaign for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered 30 days before launch. There was speculation that Activision would charge for campaign early access or would make it console exclusive, but it looks like neither is the case.
Modern Warfare II will release on October 28, 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
