Nintendo consoles don’t usually have much to do with the LA Times, but the answer to a crossword clue asking readers to identify the Nintendo Switch Avatar has stumped a lot of people. The catch is the four-letter word answer actually isn’t very common on the Switch and the avatars certainly don’t have as much prominence as they did on previous Nintendo consoles.

The Nintendo Switch Avatars July 20 crossword answer

Miis

The answer to the LA Times Nintendo Switch Avatar crossword clue is Miis. Miis first made their appearance on the Nintendo Wii console and were later used on the 3DS and Wii U. However, the thing that is likely to be confusing a lot of people is that their prominence on the Nintendo Switch has been much reduced. Miis can still be used in player avatars, but there’s also the option to choose different Nintendo characters from franchises like Mario, Splatoon, and Pikmin instead. They feature more prominently in games like Miitopia and Nintendo Switch Sports, although the latter also lets players use Sportsmates avatars instead.

Miis also make an appearance in games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Nintendo is rumored to announce more content for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe later today in the form of Wave 2 of the Booster Course Pass, although the Twitter account that started the rumor has since been disabled. Whether we do get more news later remains to be seen but we’re not holding our hopes up if we’re being honest.

In other gaming news, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth won’t remove locations featured in the original game, but players may be visiting them in a different order. Elsewhere, yesterday’s Overwatch update added a new Mercy skin but players still remain upset over the unlock conditions of Brigitte Medic.
