Overwatch July 19 Update Mercy Skin

Overwatch Update Adds New Skin Today But Brigitte Medic Controversy Still Rages On

The Overwatch 2 beta is now over and players have started heading back to Overwatch for now. As such, Overwatch got a new update today, July 19, that introduced the Royal Knight Mercy Legendary Skin. However, most fans continue to feel upset with Blizzard over the unlock methods for the Brigitte Medic skin.

Overwatch July 19 Update Patch Notes

The patch notes for the July 19 Overwatch update are fairly short, simply telling players to “celebrate the Overwatch League Midseason Madness with the Royal Knight Mercy Legendary Skin”. The new Mercy skin can be purchased using Overwatch League Tokens but only for a limited period of time until August 19.

Players may well have another skin to worry about, but some are still feeling angry over the controversy surrounding the Legendary Brigitte Medic skin. The skin was originally available during the Overwatch 2 beta, but only if players gifted three subs to a participating Twitch streamer while they were playing the beta, a cost of around $15. Surprisingly the list of streamers included some who didn’t usually play Overwatch, but the thing that most upset players was that China had a much easier method of unlocking the skin. As noticed by Dexerto, Chinese players merely needed to watch two hours of the Midseason Madness Overwatch League tournament.

Whether the skin will ever return remains to be seen, but if it does then Blizzard may need to come up with an unlock method that’s applicable in all regions. Blizzard has said they will continue with “support a streamer” events if the Brigitte Medic event was successful, but there’s been no further announcement about this either.

In other news, the Fortnite Anime Legends Pack will launch later this year but doesn’t include the rumored Dragon Ball crossover. Elsewhere, the Destiny 2 servers were down for a few hours today to apply update 4.1.5 in time for the start of the Solstice event.
