Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone Mode Is Done: No New Content Planned

When Electronic Arts released Battlefield 2042 last year, it arrived with a new game mode in Hazard Zone. The sandbox mode features maps, areas, and guns from many previous Battlefield games. Despite big expectations going in and the bumpy launch of Battlefield 2042, Hazard Zone has never lived up to the hype. Now, DICE has announced no new content is coming for Hazard Zone — a mode that was expected to be supported for years. DICE say they had high hopes for the mode but admit it never lived up to expectation.

Why is development stopping on Hazard Zone in Battlefield 2042?

In a blog post, community lead for Battlefield, Freeman said:

“We’re winding down future development on Hazard Zone. All of us on the team had great ambition and high hopes for this new Battlefield experience throughout our development, but we’re the first to hold our hands up and acknowledge that it hasn’t found the right home in Battlefield 2042 and that we’ll benefit greatly from letting our focus and energy stay on the modes we see you engaging most with.”

The developers have promised they will continue to fix game-breaking bugs, and servers will continue to function.  However, DICE has said new multiplayer maps added to 2042, will not be supported in Hazard Zone.

News of Hazard Zone winding down comes as season one approaches for Battlefield 2042 next month. The first season will include new maps, modes, and overall gameplay improvements to 2042. It kicks off the game’s first year of DLC content, bringing four seasons by June 2023.
