Battlefield 2042 Specialists Class System

Battlefield 2042 Season 3 Brings Changes to Specialists and a Class System

Battlefield 2042 Season 2 will be arriving next month with plenty of new content like a specialist and map. In the meantime, DICE has brought everyone up to date with what they’ve been working on over the past few months and what players can expect to see in the lead-up to the end of the calendar year, including a change for the Battlefield 2042 Specialists and a new class system.

Battlefield 2042 Specialists will be overhauled into a class system

Battlefield 2042 Roadmap

Many players didn’t like the new Specialist system, wondering why Battlefield 2042 didn’t have the traditional class system found in other games. Well, the good news is that this will be changed from Season 3. All 11 of the existing Specialists will be moved into a class system that consists of Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer categories. There will be traits available to all Specialists in a specific class while the existing gadgets and throwables will be split between the classes to better fit their role. The Specialists have been split into four classes, but DICE wants to know from you if they’ve got them right and says the layout is subject to change:

Assault

  • Santiago “Dozer” Espinoza
  • Webster Mackay
  • Emma “Sundance” Rosier

Engineer

  • Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky
  • Kimble “Irish” Lewis,
  • Ewelina Lis

Support

  • Constantin “Angel” Anghel
  • Maria Falck

Recon

  • Ji-Soo Paik
  • Wikus “Caspar” Van Daele
  • Navin Rao

Starting in Season 2, specialists will also be given a more battle-worn appearance in their facial expressions, posture, and voice updates. Season 2 also comes with the new vault weapons, which is a collection of Portal weaponry that will be becoming available in other modes. These are unlocked through assignments. Although details on the assignments weren’t given, Season 2 will start with two weapons — M16A3 assault rifle and M6DE4 LMG. More will be added throughout Season 2 and beyond.

Maps will also be getting some attention. September will be when Renewal will get a rework while Orbital will get a rework in October. Like Kaleidoscope, both have been altered to give more natural cover and less open spaces, with tighter corridors of combat and less freedom of movement for larger vehicles. Season 2 will also arrive with a brand new unnamed map that’s perfect for infantry-focused gameplay with its smaller layout. All of these can be seen in the video above.

Other new content due to arrive with Season 2 includes a new Specialist, weapons, vehicles, Battle Pass, Experiences, weekly missions, community spotlights, and more Portal content. Season 2 is set to be revealed later this month, so none of this content has been detailed aside from the brief look at the new map. DICE wants to assure players they’re also already working on content for Season 3 and beyond, and that future seasons will have a similar amount of new content.

In other news, the latest PGA Tour 2K23 trailer has been criticized by players for its dated graphics. Elsewhere, the Activision Blizzard and Microsoft acquisition deal has been approved by Saudi Arabia.
