Disney and Pixar have announced their next movie, Elemental, alongside a release date for mid-2023. Elemental will be set in a world where residents of all four elements live together but they don’t always get along. The movie will explore what happens when two completely different residents find they have a lot more in common than they thought.
A world of fire and water
Elemental takes place in a city where residents who are made of fire, water, land, or air all live together. The movie features Ember, a “fiery young woman”, and a “go-with-the-flow” guy called Wade as they find that while fire and water may not mix on the surface, they have far more in common than they ever imagined
Pixar’s 27th movie will be directed by Peter Sohn (The Good Dinosaur, Partly Cloudy) and produced by Denise Ream (The Good Dinosaur, Cars 2). Sohn’s own childhood in New York proved to be the inspiration for the original story:
“My parents emigrated from Korea in the early 1970s and built a bustling grocery store in the Bronx. We were among many families who ventured to a new land with hopes and dreams—all of us mixing into one big salad bowl of cultures, languages, and beautiful little neighborhoods. That’s what led me to ‘Elemental.’
Our story is based on the classic elements—fire, water, land, and air. Some elements mix with each other, and some don’t. What if these elements were alive?”
Elemental from Disney and Pixar is due to hit theaters on June 16, 2023.
