MultiVersus will be getting an open beta in July for players to try out the free-to-play game before it launches. Later this week, though, there is a closed alpha in which players can still register to take part if July seems too far away. Today’s trailer gives an example of what to expect from the platform fighter, as three new characters are introduced to the roster.
Introducing the Iron Giant
Today’s trailer introduced three new characters: The Iron Giant, Taz the Tasmanian Devil, and Velma from Scooby-Doo. The trio will join a roster of 16 characters from a variety of different franchises, including Game of Thrones’ Arya Stark, Tom and Jerry, Batman, Wonder Woman, Bugs Bunny, Adventure Time’s Finn the Human, Steven Universe, and a brand new character called Reindog. More characters are due to be revealed soon.
The closed alpha will begin on May 19 and will run until May 27. There will be the opportunity to try out the 2v2 team-based co-op mode, 1v1 matches, 4-player free-for-all, and practice mode. Matches will take place on seven maps like the Batcave (DC), Tree Fort (Adventure Time), and Scooby’s Haunted Mansion (Scooby-Doo), and players can try out 15 characters including the newly revealed Taz and Velma. Those wanting to register for the chance to take part in the alpha can do so through the game’s official website, althoughWarner Bros. has warned that space is limited and players aren’t guaranteed a spot.
If players can’t get into the closed alpha, the open beta will begin on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC at some point in July. This will give developer Play First Games a chance to trial the full cross-play support and dedicated server-based rollback netcode. More details on the beta are expected at a later date.
In other news, Elden Ring’s lifetime sales have managed to beat those of Call of Duy: Vanguard and Pokemon Legends: Arceus, at least in the US anyway. Elsewhere, Playstation and PSP games will have new features when they’re added to the new PS Plus tiers.
