The Dead Island 2 release date has been a point of contention for almost eight years since its reveal trailer in 2014, but now rumors are surfacing that the official date might be announced within the next six months. The irony of a possible re-reveal for a game about facing hordes of revived corpses is thick with this one.
When will the Dead Island 2 release date be revealed?
That said, podcast host Colin Moriarty on his April 4 episode of Sacred Symbols believes that Dead Island 2 might be unveiled as early as this summer according to an anonymous source:
“Dead Island 2 looks like it’s going to be re-revealed. I have heard from a source that I trust that the game may be fully revealed sometime this summer and released maybe shortly after that, maybe September of October at the soonest.”
The last rumor about the Dead Island 2 release date came from industry insider Tom Henderson, who said that he had sources familiar with Dambuster Studios who expect the game to release in Q4 2022, with a chance of slipping into 2023. According to Henderson, the game begins with you fighting off a zombie outbreak on a plane, surviving the crash that ensues, and then having to survive on the ground in the middle of Hollywood.
It’s been a very long time since GameRevolution first previewed Dead Island 2 in 2014 when we said that the release date would be spring 2015. Since then, over the last eight years, the game has been in development limbo with it moving from developer Techland to Yager Development as Techland chose to focus on Dying Light instead, and then from Yager to Dambuster after Yager and Deep Silver parted ways over creative differences.
It’s still unclear which platforms Dead Island 2 will release for, but job listings for the game’s development in 2020 suggest that it will only be made for next-gen consoles and PC platforms.
In other news, the latest update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection has added Floodfight and cross-platform co-op, and the PSVR 2 headset has been rumored to be delayed into 2023.
