Capcom, through a nearly 20-minute digital event on Monster Hunter Rise, has revealed that the release date for the upcoming Sunbreak expansion will be June 30, 2022. This paid DLC is right on schedule, and pre-orders for it are already available starting today.
Capcom reveals additional details on Sunbreak expansion
Ryozo Tsujimito, a producer on the Monster Hunter series, heads the digital event and describes Sunbreak as a “massive expansion” for Nintendo Switch and PC. The blurb for the digital event asks players to “discover Elgado and its biggest threats.”
As such, the opening moments of the trailer sees a party attempting to defeat a giant gorilla in stone-like armor named the “Fanged Beast, Garangolm.” Later, two separate dragon-like monsters appear, one seemingly surrounded by butterflies called the elder dragon Malzeno and another encased in lightning, marking the return of the flying wyvern Astalos first introduced in Monster Hunter Generations.
Tsujimoto reveals further that the Sunbreak expansion will include a new story, a new base, and a new hunter rank called the Master Rank. The new featured locale is called The Citadel, which is built on top of the ruins of a once-prosperous civilization, where bosses like Garangolm roam. Other monsters you’ll face in this region are the blood-orange Bishaten and the Fanged Wyvern, Lunagaron, which appears at the beginning of the story arc at the Shrine Ruins.
After meeting with royal knight Dame Fiorayne, you will be whisked way to the research outpost and port town of Elgado. Here, you will research new monsters and eventually take the fight to The Three Lords – Lunagaron, Garangolm, and Malzeno – that stand as the three biggest threats in Elgado.
The Sunbreak expansion, available as a separate digital download or packaged together with Monster Hunter Rise, will also come with a Deluxe Edition that includes a host of cosmetic items. Those who pre-order will get armor sets for the Palico and Palamute. Three amiibos will be released as well that will unlock more armor and can be used for the game’s daily lottery.
