Fans have been left hoping that a Batgirl movie theater release may be possible thanks to the announcement of a Blue Beetle release in theaters rather than just streaming on HBO Max, as was originally planned. A Batgirl HBO Max release was seemingly confirmed alongside Blue Beetle earlier this year but now fans are hoping to see the Batgirl movie in theaters too — although, if it does it may get delayed to 2023.
Will there be a Batgirl movie theater release to follow Blue Beetle?
At the moment, the Batgirl movie is still HBO Max streaming-only although fans are hoping that will change and the movie will get a full theatrical release. This follows the news today that the Blue Beetle movie, directed by Angel Manuel Soto and starring Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, will be getting a release in theaters on August 18, 2023, after all. It joins Shazam 2, which releases in June 2023. It’s possible that the lack of confirmed DC movies in 2023 is what gave Warner Bros the incentive to push Blue Beetle to a theater release.
Fans are now hoping that the Batgirl movie will join it, although that may mean postponing the release date to 2023 as it’s currently due on HBO Max in November 2022 — which puts it directly up against The Flash and Aquaman 2 in December.

GWW Editor-in-Chief KC Walsh — who recently leaked rumors on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3’s villain and Peacemaker leading into The Suicide Squad 2 — still believes that Batgirl will go theatrical.

Given that the Batgirl movie may be set in the DCEU and is likely to feature Batman in it, a theatrical release could be a natural fit if Warner Bros is looking to boost its cinematic slate in 2023 — especially as Batgirl’s basically getting her own game next year, too. Fans will just have to wait and see, however.
