Is there going to be Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PS5 co-op option? Fans of the first Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales were undoubtedly overjoyed to see the sequel announced at the PlayStation Showcase, with both Peter Parker and Miles Morales shown as fighting alongside each other before facing Venom. This strongly suggests a co-op option similar to DC Comics’ Gotham Knights, but is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 single-player only instead?
Will there be Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PS5 co-op?
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PS5 will be a single-player-only game, despite what the trailer suggests. This is according to the Official PlayStation Blog, which clearly states that while Peter Parker and Miles Morales will both feature, it will be in “their most epic single-player adventure yet.” The trailer shows both Spider-Men fighting alongside each other, but it’s entirely possible — and likely — that one of the two characters will be an AI character.
It also seems likely that players may be able to switch between the two Spider-Men at will, similar to the single-player side of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3 or the LEGO games, rather than the beginning of Spider-Man: Miles Morales where players were forced to control Miles while the AI-controlled Peter Parker goes after the Rhino. However, it also could be the case that players might be locked into either Peter or Miles during certain missions, too.
Until Sony or Insomniac reveals more about the game it’s hard to know anything for sure, but the one certainty is that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a single-player game, not a co-op one — so don’t expect to be swinging around New York with a friend just yet. Maybe Marvel fans will get to play co-op in Insomniac’s Wolverine game instead, although that definitely seems unlikely.
Elsewhere in Spider-Man news, one of them should be swinging into the PS4/PS5 version of Marvel’s Avengers at some point this year, and the new movie Spider-Man: No Way Home seems to be teasing the Sinister Six.
