Nintendo still isn’t calling The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s sequel BotW 2 in an official capacity. After finally showcasing gameplay footage during its E3 2021 Nintendo Direct presentation, the Switch manufacturer opted not to reveal a title. Instead, the game simply carries the label of “Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.”

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel doesn’t have an official title yet. Nintendo simply references the game as “Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” in official communications.

BotW 2, as fans are referring to it, could carry a different name altogether. This wouldn’t be anything new for the series, as, for example, Majora’s Mask is a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time without carrying a matching subtitle. In fact, Nintendo hasn’t numbered a Legend of Zelda sequel since Zelda II: The Adventure of Link hit NES back in 1988.

While it’s almost certainly just a typo, the capitalized “S” on “Sequel” in the trailer description could point towards this being the official name. That said, a lowercase “t” on the first instance of “the” doesn’t fit the series’ longstanding template. Keeping that in mind, it’s probably just an error that slipped through. Probably…

While fans still don’t know The Legends of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel name, they did get a glimpse at gameplay.
