Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is BotW 2’s New Name, Release Date Revealed

The September 13 Nintendo Direct ended with a new Zelda reveal. However, rather than a new game announcement, it was a new name announcement, as BotW 2 is now to be called “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.”

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom release date

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s release date is May 12, 2023.

Launching in May dodges the crowded first few months of the year, which should hopefully mean gamers can set aside the 50+ hours this game will likely take to beat.

New Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gameplay trailer

After teasing fans with 40 seconds of footage showing a mural, the trailer displays gameplay of link traversing towering structures and flying around the world.

Link is shown diving off cliff faces, plummeting towards the ground, only to be saved by a new glider that he can stand on. We also see him using a floating boulder to climb high into the sky, as well as him climbing the vines of a tree.

Arguably the most impressive part of the trailer is the verticality on show. The Nintendo Switch can clearly still push out some impressive visuals on a large scale.

During the Nintendo Direct, Pikmin 4 was revealed alongside a release date window, in addition to Fire Emblem Engage’s launch date.
