Robert Lewandowski may be best known as a soccer player for Bayern Munich, but he also has some involvement with the gaming world. Earlier this year, he invested in Movie Games S.A., a Polish game studio that has released ten games on Steam in the last three years. He is also on the roster for FIFA 21, one of the better releases in that franchise in recent memory. Now, the football star may have gotten his hands on a PS5.
Is the Lewandowski PS5 Instagram post real?
The Lewandowski PS5 Instagram post consists of two images. The first shows the footballer sitting on a couch holding a DualSense controller, with a caption that reads “This 5eason game has no limits.” The second image shows a closeup of the DualSense controller in his hand. Notably, neither image shows the actual PS5 console.
Celebrities have received early access to gaming hardware before. Back in July 2020, The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley went hands-on with the PS5, showing the new PS5 controller in action. His in-depth look revealed that the DualSense will be slightly larger than the DualShock 4, although it isn’t quite as large as some people had speculated.
Robert Lewandowski could have also received his DualSense controller early from a retailer. Earlier this week, it was reported that PS5 peripherals were appearing in some retail locations; the console’s controller, headset, and other accessories are expected to go on sale a full two weeks ahead of the official PS5 launch date later in November.
The conspicuous absence of the PS5 console itself is more notable. Although Lewandowski has recently dipped his toe into the gaming world, neither his Twitter nor his Instagram shows a particular proclivity for posting about video games. The Lewandowski PS5 Instagram post may simply be a photo op for a celebrity who has recently invested in gaming.
